I often find myself longing to go North. The further, the better.
There’s something about the North that has always attracted and drawn me. For every mile I go the greater the sense of freedom I feel. Maybe it’s just about escaping the everyday life, but I think there is something more, something almost mystical about it.
It’s a place where I encounter God’s presence. With my burdens lifted, I find myself breathing that bit deeper, feeling that bit lighter, enjoying His rest.
The sense of feeling I get reminds me of a quote in C.S Lewis’s The Last Battle:
I have come home at last! This is my real country! I belong here. This is the land I have been looking for all my life, though I never knew it till now…Come further up, come further in!
And this call is over all our lives. Jesus beckons us to the thin places where Heaven meets Earth.
But the truth is, this isn’t some far off and unreachable place, Heaven is all around us. There is now no separation. No need to go chasing after Him, nowhere we cannot find Him. We simply need to tune our attention and increase our consciousness of God-With-Us.
So let’s be obedient to that call this week, to come further up, to come further in.
Onward and upward! To Narnia and the North!
